“Teachers teach.”

If you spend any time at all around the members of the ICOC Teachers Service Team, it won’t be long before you hear this phrase. We continually produce articles and writings which you can discover on our various individual websites and other platforms. From time to time, in cooperation with other teachers, we explore various theological questions that come to the attention of persons, groups or demographics within our fellowship of churches. Occasionally these can be controversial or highly sensitive topics. The Teachers Service Team would like the reader to have access to these Scriptural studies with the understanding that we do not consider them all to have been peer-reviewed; nor is every member of our group in full agreement with every portion of every paper presented here. In addition to these, we are proud to present what we consider valuable articles authored by some of our outstanding students on a range of topics, grouped into two categories: General Interest and Academic Papers.  There is a search feature you can use to find what interests you.

We offer these in faith and love, to inform and inspire further study. May God’s Holy Spirit fill us all with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding (Colossians 1:9).

The Bible and Gender

In the fall of 2018, the ICOC Teachers Service Team assembled a task force to research biblical passages that speak to the subject of men and women in the Bible. The task force considered the relationships of men and women to God, each other, marriage, and ministry. The results of this research yielded a group of papers entitled The Bible and Gender. Originally, this project was envisioned to be one paper. However, as the project evolved, it became evident that the task force needed to write eight papers covering nine passages of Scripture. Also, it became clear that the discussion was not about the woman’s role in marriage and the church, but it was a discussion about women and men in the image of God, marriage, ministry, culture, and biblical interpretation. These articles reflect the process of “community teaching” or “community theology.” In many ways, this methodology was the North Star of the task force, driving their process of research and writing. The Teachers Task Force on The Bible and Gender prays that this book will facilitate discussions concerning this important topic across churches around the globe. —ICOC Teachers Service Team
